Motion
Lunch Lady began as a blog by Kate Berry. In many ways it was a reaction to the discovery that her daughter, Maya, had been bullied at school because of the type of lunches she had. Rather than change the food, the two of them created a blog to share and celebrate the healthy and colourful lunches that Maya loved. It has since grown into a web and print publication that takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to food, life, and parenting.
This is a film about the unglamorous side of parenting and the slap shod rush of getting kids ready for school, intertwined with an origin story. Because Kate is a professional photographer it was critical for us to recreate her visual language with dramatic light and bright colous. We wanted to capture the brief moments of stillness, punctuated by the urgency, beauty, and spontaneity of getting out the door.

“Dillon has the incredible ability to digest a brief and channel the visual style of any client. This project was an extremely personal portrait of my family and he told our story with the utmost kindness, grace and humour. ”
